8/12/71: “Astronaut Rockhounds: United States astronauts Joe Engle, left, and Alan Sheppard (sp) Tuesday examined a rock from a meteor crater believed to be 15 million years old at Noerdlingen, Germany. They are on a field trip studying the geology of the area which once may have looked like a lunar landscape but since has blended into the countryside. They hope their studies of this and similar rocks will aid them in their Apollo 14 mission scheduled January 31.” This photo can be here again.
