3/22/65: “Lessons from an Old Pro: Astronaut John W. Young, left, gets a few pointers from veteran Alan B. Shepard Jr. in the “white room” atop the gantry at Cape Kennedy, Fla., today. Young and Virgil I. Grissom tomorrow will enter their capsule, right, for a two-man, three-orbit mission. Shepard was this nation’s first flight in space. It is the first flight for Young.”
